Mindfulness for Teens

Intro to Mindfulness

In this 2 1/2 hour workshop, teens (13 – 18yo) are introduced to mindfulness – what it is; why elite sports people, musicians, and corporations use mindfulness to enhance performance; and how it can help to reduce stress and increase enjoyment of life.

Following on from this, there is an introduction to mindful communication and we workshop how to communicate mindfully in tricky situations to increase our chances of being heard and understood.

A 9 week mindfulness course for teenagers aged 12-18

Can be delivered within the school curriculum or after school – sessions can be varied from 40 – 90 mins.

Week 1: Introduction
Week 2: Playing Attention – Training the muscle of your mind
Week 3: Taming the Animal Mind – Cultivating curiosity and kindness
Week 4: Recognising Worry – Noticing how your mind plays tricks on you
Week 5: Being Here Now – From reacting to responding
Week 6: Moving Mindfully
Week 7: Stepping back – Watching the thought traffic of your mind
Week 8: Befriending the difficult
Week 9: Taking in the Good – Being present and grateful and going forward
Students who’ve taken the course reported feeling less awkward in social situations, more motivated but not as stressed around exams, and sleeping better.

This course is the .b Course developed by the Mindfulness in Schools Project. The course is highly interactive and includes film clips and activities that bring mindfulness to life.

This program is designed to give teens life-long mindfulness skills to:
– feel happier, calmer and more fulfilled
– get on better with others
– concentrate and learn better
– cope better with stress and anxiety
– perform better in music and sport.
